Moscow office of Compaq Computer held a press conference to summarize the efforts undertaken by the company for achieving Y2K readiness. The company reported about its measures aimed at preparing Compaq products to Year 2000, and actions aimed at providing support to users on the eve the new millennium and shortly after its beginning. Criteria for detection of Y2K compatibility were also announced at the press conference. All Compaq products based on Intel x86 platform should successfully pass the YMARK2000 v97.08.15 test, developed by National Software Testing Laboratories (NSTL), to be considered as Y2K compliant. This relates to servers, workstations, home and office computers, and portable computers. All Intel x86-based products manufactured by Compaq since October 7, 1997, have been successfully tested and are Y2K compliant. Failures of any of these products during the test are considered as malfunction and covered by Compaq warranty. Products manufactured earlier than October 7, 1997, may require Y2K compatible upgrade of ROM BIOS. Compaq also offers a set of software drivers to provide correct operation of the most out-of-date models which do not allow ROM replacement. On the eve of the New Year Compaq office in Russia will publish phone numbers of technical support service at its website www.compaq.ru. This service will provide support on Y2K-related problems not only in the New Year night but throughout the New Year holidays. Source: InfoArt News Agency
