Up-to-the-date computer facilities have been recently put into operation in the four leading Moscow universities: Moscow State University (MSU), Moscow State Technical University (MSTU), Moscow State Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI), and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Institute (MIPT). The labs equipped with Intel Pentium III and Intel Pentium III Xeon based computers were supplied by Intel office in CIS and Baltic countries within the framework of the contest entitled "Intel-based systems in education and scientific research". The contest was announced in April 1999. It is a part of Intel academic program which is under way in ex-USSR countries since 1997. The total amount of Intel grants exceeds US$ 300 mln.

MSU Department of Chemistry got a laboratory equipped with 18 workstations based on Intel Pentium III 500 MHz processors, a 4-way Intel Pentium III Xeon-500 based server, and other necessary hardware.

MSU Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics won nine Intel Pentium III-500 computers, an Intel Pentium III-500 server, two Pentium III-550 workstations, an Intel Сеleron/400 notebook, a multimedia projector and peripheral devices.

MEPhI now has a 19-seat lab with Intel Pentium III-550 machines, two Intel Pentium III Xeon-500 workstations, and auxiliary hardware. The lab will be used for scientific end educational efforts in medical physics.

The library of MSTU got ten Intel Pentium III-500 computers, an Intel Pentium III-550 server, an Intel Express hub, and periphery.

MIPT got seven Intel Pentium III-500 computers, two Intel Pentium III-550 servers, as well as videoconferencing and peripheral hardware. It will serve for building remote education courses.
