French search engine Voila (www.voila.fr), owned by France Telecom, announced kick-off of a new service. Now users of the French largest search engine do not need to know foreign languages at all to look for information throughout the Internet. The user makes a request in French, and the server automatically translates it in English or German. Once the search is complete, its results are translated back into French. Voila also offers free on-line translation of small texts from French to English or German. All the user has to do is to type the text in a corresponding field and press the "Traduire!" ("Translate!") button. Then the translated text is shown into the browser window. The service is based on the same solutions as the well-established www.translate.ru engine - a free translation server run by Russian company PROMT, the developer of the original technology. One of the most interesting features of Voila service is translation of the entire websites. Once a site address is typed in, a complete translation of the page appears on the screen, with not only the text but also the hyperlinks being translated. On top of that, the service preserves the original formatting of the page. New Voila service is built upon PROMT Internet Translation Server 2.0, a specialized Internet product by PROMT. The product is promoted to European market by Softissimo company under REVERSO trademark. Source: InfoArt News Agency
