Kaspersky Lab announces commercial version of AVP for Linux and FreeBSD Unix

Russian software vendor Kaspersky Lab, the specialist in anti-virus protection solutions, released the first commercial version of AVP for Linux/FreeBSD suite.

Beta 1 of the product was released on March 5, 1999. During the next eight months, it was tested by thousands of users and system administrators throughout the world.

The suite is the world first turnkey anti-virus solution for workstations, file and application servers running Linux and FreeBSD operating systems. It includes three principal components: anti-virus scanner (AVP Scanner), anti-virus filter (AVP Daemon for Linux), and file interceptor (AVP Monitor for Linux).

The programs are shipped with open source text of client portion. Thus users can embed it into their own applications and solutions, as well as develop their own client programs.

Future versions of the product will include flexible event scheduler, upgrade of virus databases via Internet, X-Window graphical interface, sending e-mail warnings about virus intrusion attempts, insulation of infected and suspicious objects.

The price of annual AVP for Linux/FreeBSD subscription is US$ 99.95. Registered users of AVP for Linux will get the upgrades free of charge during the term of their subscription.

Kaspersky Lab plans for the nearest future call for release of AVP ZES Linux bootable diskette. It will contain Linux operating system along with preinstalled AVP suite.
