A supercomputer center established in Moscow

The Interdepartamental Supercomputer Center (ISC) has been established in Moscow. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Russian Prime Minister V. V. Poutin. Currently the center uses a HP 9000 V-class system with 16 processors and shared memory, and MVS-1000 96-way massive parallel system, designed by Russian Kvant scientific and research institute in cooperation with the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences. Further plans call for increasing the MVS-1000 performance up to TeraFLOPS level. Currently the total processing power if ISC is about 230 GFLOPS.

Archive system of the center is based on HP 9000 K-class two-way server (K850). The visualization system utilizes HP VISUALIZE J-class workstations (J2240).

MSC also includes the local area network based on ATM technology. Users can access the computational resources of the Center directly from the terminal hall using HP 9000 C-class workstations, X-terminals and PCs running Windows NT. Remote users are linked to ISC by 155 Mbps communication channel.
