The 20th session of the Board of Directors of the International Scientific and Technical Center (ISTC) has made decisions on distribution of additional funding for solving Y2K problem in Russia. The sum, totaling 500,000 EURO, was assigned by the European Council for direct assistance to Russian enterprises. Currently ISTC is funding 14 Y2K-related projects totaling US$ 1,4 mln. The projects involve the enterprises presenting the greatest environmental risks, mainly in nuclear power and chemical industries. Additional funding is provided by a group of ISTC participants, including the European Council, Norway, United States and Japan. Investments discussed at the last session will be used for purchasing new hardware which is necessary to avoid Y2K-related failures. The lists of such hardware were composed previously within the framework of stage one of the current projects. ISTC is an inter-governmental organization devoted to non-propagation of mass elimination weapon technologies. The Center is funding civil scientific research carried out by specialists of the former weapon industries of Russia and other CIS countries. The Center has also established its program on solving the Year 2000 problem. The program should provide safe storage and solve a number of security problems for nuclear and other dangerous materials. Source: InfoArt News Agency
