Telecom Center company, one of the leading Internet providers in Moscow city, and Neocom-R company, announced new services for wireless Internet access throughout the city. Within the framework of the project, central offices of Telecom Center network are being equipped with BreezeACCESS wireless access stations manufactured by BreezeCOM company from Israel. The system operates in 2.4 GHz band. Each base station has a 360-degrees antenna and covers the distance up to 15 km, provided that there is straight line of sight to the subscriber. The stations are directly connected to Telecom Center high-speed IP backbone by dedicated digital link with 2 Mbps or higher performance. This allows each base station to serve a few dozens of subscribers with guaranteed throughput ranging from 64 to 2048 Kbps. Installation fee, which includes installation of CPE hardware, is US$ 900 for 64 Kbps channel and US$ 1200 for 128 Kbps channel. Monthly rates for unlimited Internet access and for 500 Gbytes of incoming foreign traffic are US$ 300 and 500, respectively. Incoming and outgoing Russian traffic is free. Wireless networking services, InfoArt notes, have already been offered at Moscow market by a number of providers. Up no now, however, these services usually implied rather expensive 2 Mbps links typically used by large corporate customers for private networking. The new offer from Telecom Center appears to be the first to provide throughput in smaller fractions, thus making wireless technology affordable for a wider range of customers.
