TDMA network put into operation in Russia

Another TDMA cellular network has been officially put into commercial operation in Tumen city in Russia. The digital network is based upon Ericsson solution and is run by Tumenruscom company. The coverage area of the network includes Tumen and Tobolsk cities and their suburbs, with the total capacity of 6,000 subscribers. Future plans call for expansion of the network to the entire Tumen region, including vast areas of oil extraction. At the moment, basic infrastructure of the network includes two mini-switches and four RBS 884 base stations. The company offers its subscribers in Tumen and Tobolsk both mobile and fixed cellular handsets, which can operate up to 50 km (30 miles) away from the center of the city.

Tumenruscom is a local cellular operator. Among its co-founders, there are Tumentelecom (the largest operator of public telecommunication networks in the region), Metromedia Int'l. Telecommunication Corporation from USA, and Rustel company, a satellite communications operator.
