Intel office for CIS and Baltic countries has marked the successful participation of Russian and Ukrainian schoolchildren in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in the past two years. Now a decision has been made to expand the framework of the program. This spring, InfoArt mentions, four winners of the Junior '99 contest in Russia and two finalists of the Contest of Young Scientists in Ukraine have taken part in Intel ISEF'99 final. All of them won high awards. On top of that, two schoolchildren from Belarus have been invited to the contest for the first time as observers. Junior selection contests have been held in CIS and Baltic countries since 1997. Their winners get the right to present their work at Intel ISEF. The event, InfoArt notes, rapidly gains popularity in Russia and CIS countries. At the Junior '98 contest, there were about 190 participants from 30 schools of Moscow, Moscow region, Ekaterinburg, Tver (Russia) and Baranovichi city in Belarus. About 350 works were submitted to Junior '99 from 124 schools of 47 cities in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova. Junior-2000 contest will be held on March 11 and 12, 2000 in Moscow State Engineering and Physical Institute (MEPhI). As a year ago, schoolchildren of grades 9 to 11 (the senior three classes in Russian school system) from all CIS and Baltic countries are welcome. Similar regional contests will be arranged in Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Source: InfoArt News Agency
