Cisco Systems and Plus Communications companies announced completion of stage one of their project in Krasnodar region in Russia. The project is aimed at building multiservice communication network for Kubanelectrosvyaz, a local telco operator. The IP network will provide a wide range of modern telecommunication services. The solution is entirely based on Cisco Systems' products. Stage one is building the IP network with 23 nodes in major cities of the region, including Krasnodar, Sochi, and Novorossiysk. Completion of this stage will allow Kubanelectrosvyaz to provide Internet access for a broad community of individual and corporate users, high-quality virtual private networking (VPN) services for corporate customers, IP telephony services, as well as to build its own corporate network. The core of the network is formed by backbone routers of Cisco 7500 family (7513, 7507), with Cisco AS5300's acting as access servers. Regional nodes of the network are equipped with Cisco 3640 module routers. For the first time the solution of this scale will support MPLS (multi-protocol label switching) technology, which greatly simplifies operation of the network and increases its scalability. On top of that, MPLS gives the operator a simple and convenient tool for building VPNs with security level comparable to that of leased-line solutions. Hardware shipments for the first stage of the project have been completed this September. Currently the equipment is being installed at the operator's premises. Beginning of regular operation of the network is scheduled for late October, 1999. Source: InfoArt News Agency
