Russian government hopes for foreign credits for solving Y2K problem

Russian prime minister Vladimir Poutin signed a decree on new Y2K efforts. The document plans to attract foreign credits for solving this problem in Russia.

The total of these credits is assumed to be about US$ 50 mln. These funds will be utilized by the State Committee on Telecommunications (Gostelecom) for upgrading computer hardware and software in governmental institutions. Commercial terms of these purchases will be audited by Russian Ministry of Trade. Gostelecom, in its turn, is obliged to provide quarter and annual reports on using the credit amounts.
