Moscow offices of Compaq Computer and Intel corporations held a joint press conference to announce the beginning of shipments of Compaq ProLiant 8000 and 8500 servers to Russian market. These 8-way servers are based on new Intel Profusion chipset, with Compaq having taken an active part in the development of this chipset.

Compaq believes that beginning of commercial production of 8-way servers, based on standard architecture and Profusion chipset, is worth considering as the most important premiere at the server scene in the current year.

Compaq officials also say that the appearance of its 8-way systems at Russian server market, which is still suffering from consequences of the economic crisis, will provide a new impulse to building powerful and reliable solutions. It will also save users' investments by using the servers based on standard architecture.

On top of that, Compaq offers a special upgrade program for its 4-way Compaq ProLiant 7000 servers, thus converting them into 8-way configuration.
