Lucent Technologies and Kubanelectrosvyaz, a regional telco operator at the south of Russia, sighed an agreement on upgrading the existing SDH network in Krasnodar city. The agreement calls for shipment and installation of STM-16 synchronous digital hierarchy system, based on Lucent WaveStar ADM 16/1 products, as well as ITM-SC control system. Carrying out this project will increase the capacity of Krasnodar transport network by the factor of four and provide new resources for expanding local and transit switches. It will also form a transport media for data communication network. The project is the next step in a row within the framework of a long-term program, aimed at major upgrade of Krasnodar telecommunication facilities. The first agreement for STM-4 solution was made between Kubanelectrosvyaz and Lucent Technologies in 1996. It was followed by the contract for expanding this SDH network in 1997. ================= Regional Cisco Networking Academy established in St.-Petersburg This autumn a Regional Networking Academy of Cisco Systems is starting its operation in Saint-Petersburg State University of Telecommunications (SUT) in Russia. It is established within the framework of Cisco Networking Academy (CNA) educational program, which has been carried out by the company in Russia since 1999. The agreement between SUT and Cisco Systems on establishment of this academy was signed in July 1999. St.-Petersburg Regional Academy of Cisco Systems will graduate professionals in networking technologies. It will be based on the Department of Information Security of Telecommunication Systems. The academic program developed by Cisco Systems' experts includes a training course 2 to 4 semesters long, depending upon the initial expertise of the audience. Students will be taught basic principles of networking, router operation, theoretical and practical basics of switching, building virtual networks, technologies and principal protocols of local and global networks. Academy students will be recruited from students specializing in telecommunications, as well as from professionals in this field, wishing to improve their knowledge and skills. ================= Autodesk closes its office in Moscow Moscow office of Autodesk company announced that it is stopping its operation. It is underscored in the letter signed by Najeeb Khan, CIS regional sales manager and Autodesk CIS director-in-chief, that this solution is due to global cutting down on the company's expenses. Autodesk has to utilize its resources more effectively in the most effective areas. This action relates not only to Russia and has nothing in common with the individual productivity of its Moscow staff. Up to now, Moscow office of Autodesk provided technical support only to authorized partners, which, in their turn, provided support to end users. Autodesk dealers network is operating steadily in Russia for a few years in a row. Thus the company believes that closing its office in Moscow will have no effect on end users. =================== BMW goes online in Russia BMW AG has established its Russian site in the Internet at http://wwwbmw.ru. The website was launched on the eve of Moscow Auto Show '99. On top of that, the concern has established a daughter enterprise in Kaliningrad city and built the central warehouse of spare parts in Moscow. Opening the Russian website is another step of BMW towards Russian customer.
