Japanese corporation Kyocera announced beginning of its operation in Russia and first shipments of its products to the local market. According to company's data, its total sales in fiscal year 1998 (ended March 31, 1999) exceeded 725 bln. yen. Kyocera is going to sell a variety of IT products and optical tools in Russia. Among these products, there are laser printers, videoconferencing systems, multimedia set-top boxes for TVs, magneto-optical disks, Contax and Yashica still cameras. Kyocera plans call for taking at least 10% of European market of laser printers in 2000. The current share of the company at this market, according to Dataquest reports, is 8%, with the share at German market being as high as 14,1%. Company's plans in Russia for the first year of operation are more modest: winning 3 to 5 per cent of the market. To enter this market, Kyocera has set up special prices, which are slightly lower than prices of the principal competitors' products of the same classes. In particular, the company presents environment-friendly cartridgeless printers of ECOSYS family, aimed at corporate customers and small to medium enterprises.
