The Moscow International Internet Festival is on since July 30 till September 30, 1999 in Russia. (http://idaystars.ru/) In course of the festival, Internet users from throughout the world can get acquainted with the best sites in Russian segment of the Internet, evaluate the most up-to-date Internet technologies, reveal new possibilities for human communication in the computer virtual world. One of the central events of the festival is the census of Russian-speaking Internet users. By the moment, the number of forms filled by the participants has exceeded 7,000, with the total number of visitors of the festival site being about 110,000. Currently the festival is on its fifth week, the Week of Personal and Pocket Computers. During this week, special news stream is dedicated to hot news about handheld and palm-size computers, reviews, articles and interviews on the topic are being published. Special place is given to history of personal computers and programming languages. Visitors of the festival site can look in the Internet museum, which presents a lot of very interesting exhibits. A lot of attention is paid to domestic Russian projects and developments, various operating systems (staying aside from the Windows family), Russian PC market. Electon-Handheld Computers, a Russian company specializing in handhelds and palm-size devices, has prepared a program named "The Zoo of Handhelds" specially for the festival week. It presents a variety of miniature devices, as well as success stories about professionals applying pocket computers as widely as phone or TV.
