Moscow International Internet festival-99 (http://idaystars.ru) is held from July 30 till September 30, 1999. During the festival Internet users have received opportunity of learning the best works in the Russian Internet, estimating advanced Internet technologies, revealing new possibilities of human communication in the virtual computer area. One of the central events of the festival is Census of Russian Internet users. Now the number of the filled forms has exceeded 6000. The total number of visits of the festival's page has exceeded 91000. Internet festival has already supported more than 600 companies, organizations and Web-sites from the following countries: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Estonia, Litva, Latvia, Kirgizia, Kazahstan, Armenia, Israel, USA, Germany, Canada, Dania, France, Argentina, Thailand. The 4th subject week of the Internet festival (23-29 September, 1999) was devoted to the Russian and world literature. The week is not chosen by chance - it is devoted to the 250th anniversary of the great German poet and philosopher - Iogan Volfgan Goethe, his anniversary was celebrated on August 28, 1999. The research work of Nicolay Vilmont, the Russian scientist - "Gete and his time" - was published. By the 200th anniversary of great russian poet Pushkin "Canto about Prophetic Oleg" is published with illustrations made by the famous Russian artist Victor Vasnetsov in 1899. Memoirs of Russian writers about Pushkin are published as well. The photo report from the International Poets Congress in St-Petersburg is also devoted to the Pushkin's anniversary. "History of angels" by Horhe Luis Borges, the Argentine writer, is published and devoted to the 100th anniversary of the author. In the festival the Russian literary journal "Novy mir" represents 6 stories unfamous in Russia before written by the English classic writer of the 20th century, Graham Green, translated by Galina Vinokurova. Among publications of "World Literature Library" there are stories by Ivan Bunin, prose by Sergey Esenin, work about French poets (Anri de Regnier and Paul Clodel) written by Maximilian Voloshin and fairy tales by Charlie Perrault for children. Presentation of the leading Russian literature sites, literary projects including electronic libraries are planned this week too. The new contest of the festival was opened. It is the contest of modern literature "Golden Pen". Any unpublished in printing editions literary works can be sent to the contest that consists of 2 nominations "Prose" and "Poetry". The works will be rated by the festival's participants. On the festival site interview with cultural workers of Russia can be read, meetings with men of literature and science (including managers and leading experts of the Gorky's World Literary Institute), editors of literary magazines can be watched in the Internet TV section.
