Intel office in the CIS and Baltic states will hold PCs fair in Riga (capital of Latvia) in August 27-29, 1999. It will be held in the central square of Riga - in the Stock Exchange building. Traditionally the entry to the event will be free. It will be exhibition and sale of the newest models of hardware. The company is to exhibit a wide range of new models of PCs based on Pentium III, the newest model of Intel processors. Local companies will also exhibit their novelties. The following Latvian firms will participate at the show: BISS, Capital, Elcor, Elko-Vest Riga, ELVA-1, Fortech, Komline, M.Shafro&Co, Pro Line. The Russian companies "Noviy Disk" and "PROMT" will demonstrate their software products optimized to Intel Pentium III processor. ================= Microsoft will announce the Russian version of Microsoft Office 2000 in Moscow The Microsoft company announced that on September 14, 1999 in Moscow it will present the Russian version of Microsoft Office 2000 as well as solutions based on it. There will be "test laboratory" where everyone will be able to learn peculiarities of the product. Besides, such events will be held in St-Petersburg (September 16), Kiev (September 21), Alma-Ata (September 24), Novosibirsk (September 28) and Kazan (October 1). ========== The Russian market of PCs is restoring According to IDC/Russia in the 2nd quarter the volume of PCs shipment to Russia was 201,000 PCs or US$ 206 mln that practically corresponds to the results of the previous quarter. Such figures are not bad for the 2nd quarter because it is always characteristic of the largest season sales recession. 20% reduction of computer shipment was fixed in comparison with the 2nd quarter. The most favourable situation can be traced in the desktop PCs segment (18,8% sales recession) but shipment of mobile systems was reduced by 41,8% in comparison with the 2nd quarter of the previous year. The average cost of computers has been rised this year - from US$920 in the 1st quarter to US$1,020 in the 2nd one. IDC has been held such researches in Russia since 1997 and for the first time foreign PC manufacturers have become the sales leaders in Russia: according to the results of the 2nd quarter by the number of PCs HP takes the 1st place and Compaq - the 2nd. ========== The international conference "Internet: technologies and services" will be held in Moscow The Popov Russian scientific and technical society of radio engineering, electronics and telecommunications, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Centre of Scientific and Technical Information announced holding of the 1st international conference "Internet: technologies and services" in October 25-28 in Moscow. During this conference there will be 2 three-hour training courses ("IP-telephony" and "Quality of services in Internet"), technical sessions that will consist of reports and their discussion as well as a special session "Internet development in Russia". Besides, simultaneously with the conference the international show "Internet: technologies and services" will be held in October 25-27. =========== The international conference devoted to the Russian telecommunications will be held in Geneva The Academy of Economics under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Swiss company Multimarketing Group (together with the State Telecommunications Committee of the Russian Federation) will hold the 5th international conference "Telecommunications in Russia: integration and possibilities of international cooperation" in September 10-11 in Geneva. Representatives of state organizations and enterprises of Russia and a number of European countries as well as of vaious telecommunication and computer companies ("Sviazinvest", "Rostelecom", "Fors", "Galaktika", Hewlett-Packard, Lucent Technologies, Alcatel, etc.) are expected to participate in the event. At the conference there will be also discussion of today state of telecommunications in Russia , ways of their development as well as corresponding federal and regional programs.
