Cisco Systems and Moscow State University establish Regional Networking Academy

Cisco Systems and Moscow State University (MSU) announced establishing of Cisco Systems Regional Networking Academy. According to contract penned by the two bodies, the networking leader will provide free training for professors of the University, supply networking hardware, software and tutorials for the University's training labs free of charge, and will assist in arrangement of the training courses.

Students will be recruited to the academy from natural sciences departments of the University, including Mechanics and Mathematics, Computer Mathematics and Cybernetics, Physics, and others. Employees of third-party companies and organizations are also invited. To enter the Academy, an applicant should pass entrance exams. MSU students will study in the Academy free of charge.

The academic program developed by Cisco Systems experts spans 4 semesters. After successful completion of the program the students will receive the University's certificate of the course and Cisco Certified Networking Associate qualification.

At the moment, there are five Cisco Regional Networking Academies in Russia. They already operate in Urals State University, Moscow Physical and Technical Institute, Moscow Engineering and Physical Institute, and Saint-Petersburg State University of Telecommunications.

Lack of qualified specialists in networking technologies is a tough problem of employment markets worldwide. E.g., in Europe there are about 500,000 vacancies in this field, with IDC forecasting this digit to reach 1,2 mln by year 2002. Thus Cisco Systems sees its goal in training as much specialists as possible in up-to-the-date networking technologies. Currently there are more than 2200 Cisco Systems academies in 39 countries worldwide, established within the framework of Cisco Networking Academy Program.
