A conference entitled "Year 2000 problem in Russia" will be held in Moscow on October 8, 1999 within the framework of InternetCom '99 show. The conference is organized by parliamentary committee on telecommunications, Russian Ministry of Nuclear Power, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Extreme Situations.

The conference is aimed at providing recommendations for estimation of readiness of various systems to year 2000, standards and techniques for testing, evaluation of risks. It will also propose technologies, products and solutions of the problem with account of local peculiarities. Finally, it will consider the matters of contingency planning.

The reports planned for the conference include: Legislation issues of Year 2000 problem; State Program for solving Year 2000 problem; International experience in solving the Year 2000 problem; Standards and techniques for testing Year 2000 readiness of IT systems; Solving Year 2000 problem in large IT systems; Contingency Planning. The conference will also include plenary sessions and round tables, work in sections, exhibition of Y2K-related technologies, solutions and products, as well as press events.
