Russian software vendor Kaspersky Lab, a specialist in anti-virus protection, took part in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) Economic Summit of World Economic Forum. The event was held in Zaltsburg (Austria) on June 30 to July 2, 1999, and attended by top politicians, economists, businesspersons and officials of the region. Kaspersky Lab was the only Russian high-tech company presented at the summit. Natalia Kasperskaya, the Chief Director of the company, made a report at one of the plenary sessions of the forum, which took place in Salzburger Residenz. Mrs. Kaspersky took part in the discussion entitled "Whether the region is able to develop new technologies?" The discussion was managed by Mrs. Esther Dyson, the Executive Director of EDventure Holdings. On top of Kaspersky Lab, reports were presented by three other companies - IBM, Sun, and ComputerLand. The plenary session was attended by more than a hundred representatives from a great variety of companies. Principal questions concerned at the session were: whether the region is able to create new technologies? Whether CEE companies have a chance to be successful in their competition with North American and West European transnational corporations? What are the perspectives of local companies' development? Which peculiarities are specific to IT business as compared to other industries? Natalia Kasperskaya expressed her belief that the CEE region is quite able to generate new technologies, with her company being a clear example of this. As to the future, it will undoubtedly belong to global companies only. Taking this into account, the company is steadily improving its presence not only at Russian market but also worldwide. The viewpoint of Mrs. Kasperskaya was supported by a lot of dicsussioners. Speaking about peculiarities of developing high-tech business in Russia, Mrs. Kasperskaya underscored three principal positive factors for it. These are the human factor (namely, the high level of education in the country), low cost of production and high level of personnel devotion to their job. =================== Kaspersky Lab launches a new marketing program Kaspersky Lab, the leading Russian vendor of anti-virus protection systems, announced kickoff of a new marketing program. The "People's Antivirus" program will improve its cooperation with Internet service providers and make Kaspersky solutions more available for their customers. The well-known fact is that Internet users are exposed to the greatest risk of being infected by computer viruses. Taking this into account, Kaspersky Lab made a decision to make its popular AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP) suite available for purchase via service providers. Monthly subscription for AVP Lite for Windows 95/98 resident interceptor of viruses at the providers' site costs the user as low as 1$. According to Kaspersky officials, this option is not only much cheaper than the box copy of AVP but also more convenient, since payment is done directly from the user's account at his provider. The new program protects user's computers against various kinds of viral and hackers' attacks, including the "Trojan Horses" which steal Internet access passwords. On the other hand, the program helps the providers to make their services more attractive for users and completely eliminate the problems arising from passwords hacking. On top of that, providers are offered great preferences and discounts while purchasing the corporate AVP package. Source: InfoArt News Agency
