In order to speed up wide-scale acceptance of computer technologies in Russian society, Intel office in CIS and Baltic countries arranged a contest for the best publication on the role of computer technologies in human everyday activities. Participants of the contest are youth, women, men, entertainment, social, political and other periodicals, as well as TV and radio broadcasting companies. The contest entitled "The computer helps us to build, to study and to live" (rhythmed with a popular Soviet song of the 30s) will go on since July 1999 till March 2000 in the following nominations: For each nomination, three prizes are established, with the first of them being either a desktop or a mobile PC based on the most up-to-date Intel processor available by the moment of contest termination (i.e. by March 2000). The prize fund also includes unlimited Internet access for 6 to 12 months, Intel PC Camera Packs (a digital videocamera suite allowing to make video communication), as well as various software and other valuable presents.
- The best newspaper publication;
- The best magazine publication;
- The best radio broadcast;
- The best TV show;
- The best material from information agencies;
- The best publication of a regional mass media;
- The most unusual exposure of the topic.
Intel office in CIS and Baltic countries is the principal sponsor of the contest, with a number of local and worldwide hardware vendors and Internet providers making their contribution to sponsorship. Among them one can see Acer, White Wind-DVM, Eximer, Glasnet, Compaq, Klondike, R&K, Cityline. During the entire course of the contest, publications presented for it will be available at Intel website at http://wwwintel.ru/local/konkurs. To Intel's opinion, one of the reasons for Russia's lagging behind the worldwide trends for introduction of information technologies into everyday life is lack of knowledge about the great potential of computer revolution among vast groups of local population. (Situation is similar in other CIS countries.) Intel's initiative is aimed at filling this gap. Source: InfoArt News Agency
