ISTC assigns US$ 1.5 mln for Y2K projects in Russia

The International Scientific and Technical Center (ISTC), headquartered in Moscow, announced funding of eleven projects relating to security of computer systems in connection with Year 2000 problem. The total amount of the projects, which have been developed in close cooperation with Russian Ministry of Nuclear Power and Ministry of Extreme Situations, reaches US$ 1.5 mln. They will provide direct assistance to nine Russian nuclear power plants in evaluating nuclear fuel cycles, as well as monitoring chemical plants. Funds will be used for purchase of necessary equipment and materials and for technical analysis.

All eleven projects are approved by an international expert group, headed by Dr. Jan-Pierre Koncen, the Special Councilor of the European Committee and former Chairman of ISTC's Board of Directors. He underscored that ISTC is a non-governmental organization devoted to non-propagation of mass destruction weapon technologies. The center is funding peaceful research performed by institutions of military industry in Russia and CIS countries.
