The Trans-Ameritech Enterprises company began its efforts on building an information system for Gosatomnadzor (the state committee of control on nuclear technologies) of Russia. The project was awarded to the company by the Pacific Northwest Nuclear Laboratory (PNNL) within the framework of intergovernmental agreement between Russia and USA on control of non-propagation of fissionable materials. Under this agreement, the joint Russian-American management and development team of Trans-Ameritech and Gosatomnadzor specialists will deploy a computerized information system which will cover the entire cycle of operations in this highly distributed organization. The system includes a distributed database based on Oracle solution. Trans-Ameritech specialists are studying the business processes, develop the information structure and train the personnel of Gosatomnadzor. The system is being designed with the most up-to-date technologies for development of complex systems, such as CASE technique. Completion of phase one of the pilot project is anticipated by end-1999. Trans-Ameritech experts say the technical level of the said system to exceed that of the systems which are currently used in similar US organizations. Source: InfoArt News Agency
