Samsung Electronics presents new CDMA and GSM handsets at Svyaz/Expo Comm'99

Samsung Electronics company has presented three new models of two-way CDMA/AMPS handsets at Svyaz/Expo Comm'99 show in Moscow this week: SCH-411, SCH-611 and SCH-811. The entry-level model of this family, SCH-411, weights only 140 grams, has a convenient graphic interface and supports voice dialing. SCH-611 is the lightest phone, weighting as little as 89 grams. On top of all functions of the previous model, it also allows to make a voice record by pressing a single key.

The fully functional model SCH-811 weights 117 grams and has a wide graphic display, built-in diary, calendar and calculator. As well as the previous models, it supports the voice dialing function.

All three handsets are equipped with an enhanced EVRC vocoder, providing a toll-quality voice communication. This vocoder also allows to transmit data at a rate 8 to 13 Kbps, depending upon the quality of the air link. The phones are shipped with lithium-ion batteries.

On top of these models, Samsung has demonstrated new GSM handsets: single-band SGH-600 and SGH-500 (for GSM-900 standard) and dual-band SGH-2100 and SGH-2200 (for GSM-900/1800 standard).

The smallest and the lightest of these handsets, SGH-600, supports voice dialing, voice recording (up to 140 seconds) and phonebook (up to 99 records in the memory of the device itself plus 150 records at standard SIM card). Twenty numbers which are called most frequently may be dialed just by pronouncing the name of the addressee, with the handset obeying only the voice of its owner.

SGH-600 handset weights 97 grams and easily fits into a shirt pocket. It is equipped with lighted LCD with animation and dynamically changing fonts, capable of displaying up to four lines of text.

Dual-band models are as small and light as their single-band counterparts. They weight 110 and 97 grams, with SGH-2200 being the smallest and the lightest among all dual-band handsets. SGH-2100 has the functionality similar to SGH-600, including voice dialing and voice recording.

All the above GSM models can be connected to a computer via a S/W modem, which is able to transmit faxes and data at rates 9600 Bps. Built-in Samsung EasyGSM function allows to edit the phonebook and SMS messages at the computer. All handsets are also equipped with vibratory ring, support hands-free operation and allow to select any of 17 languages, including Russian.

The 11th Svyaz/Expo Comm'99 show is taking place in Moscow on May 11 to 15, 1999. This is the major Russian exhibition in telecommunications industry.
