Ericsson to provide equipment for mobile communications in Khabarovsk

An agreement on long-term partnership has been signed between Ericsson and Dal Telecom International (DTI), a communication operator at Khabarovsk city, Far East of Russia. The first joint project of the two companies is building a modern digital cellular communications network in Khabarovsk, based on TDMA IS-136 standard. The companies say the project to allow DTI to broaden the suit of its services and drastically increase their quality. In particular, the system will provide automatic roaming with Moscow and other cities in Russia and CIS countries.

The TDMA IS-136 technology is characterized by high quality of voice communications and low power consumption. It also offers call redirection, voice mail, data and fax communications, as well as protection against unauthorized access.

The system to be shipped to Khabarovsk by Ericsson includes the mobile communications switch of new generation and nine base stations. They will replace the Lucent Technologies' system currently operated by DTI. The technological base of the new DTI network will also include the new version of software.

Further plans of DTI and Ericsson call for expansion of the network to neighboring regions. In particular, it will cover main roads towards Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Vladivostok, the two other major cities in Russian Far East.
