400 educational institutions and 18 libraries in Moscow have already got Internet access free of charge within the framework of "Moscow Educational Internet" project. It is carried out jointly by MTU-Inform company, one of the major Internet providers in Moscow, and Moscow Committee of Education. This unique action is on since October 1998 and is aimed at providing information support to educational institutions in Moscow. It embraces schools, colleges, technical schools, education and production centers, centers of children and youth creative work, centers for adaptation of disabled children. Any Moscow school or another educational institution, which reports to Moscow Committee of Education, can now submit an application to the Moscow Institute of Educational Personnel Training or to regional teaching center with proper reasoning for getting an Internet access. On top of that, the school should have a computer, a modem and a phone dial-up line. In mid-February the free Internet access was also offered to Moscow libraries, and only during one week 18 applications were received. In order to be connected, the libraries should send their applications to the Department of Libraries, Science and Informatization of Russian Ministry of Culture. Source: InfoArt News Agency
