Four Russian schoolchildren to take part in final of Intel ISEF'99 contest
Four Russian schoolchildren won their right to participate in the final
stage of the worldwide Intel ISEF-99 contest of youth scientific and
engineering activity. They are the winners of the regional Junior-99
contest. ISEF final will be held on May 2 to 8, 1999, in Philadelphia.
Participation of CIS schoolchildren in Intel ISEF has become possible since
1997 by virtue of the corporate academic program, which is carried out by
Intel offices in these countries. Since that, a number of leading
universities and colleges of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus has joint the
program.
Students of 124 schools from 47 Russian, Ukrainian, Belarussian and
Moldovian cities took part in the regional stage of the contest. They
presented about 350 reports in five sections: mathematics, physics,
informatics, Earth and space sciences, and environmental sciences (biology,
economy, ecology). The jury of the contest was constituted by professors
and researchers from Moscow State University (MSU), Moscow Engineering and
Physical Institute (MEPhI), Moscow State Technical University (MSTU), and
Russian Ministry of Education.
According to Intel Moscow office, all participants of the contest will be
awarded with prizes and gifts. They will also be granted an additional
score white passing entrance examinations for MSU, MEPhI and MSTU. Top four
contributors to each section can now enter any of these universities
without examinations.
