Resident antiviral checker SpIDer Guard for Windows 95/98
Russian software vendor DialogNauka, a leading specialist in antiviral
protection, announced a new product for reliable shielding the PC against
viruses of any kind. The program named SpIDer is a resident checker,
operating in Windows 95/98 environments. It is based on the popular Doctor
Web family of products and is a part of DrWeb for Win32 antiviral suite.
The most noticeable features of the new checker are the following:
- SpIDer intercepts all requests for files and system areas on the disks
and checks them for viruses on-the-fly;
- while operating in special "extra security" mode, SpIDer detects and
blocks any kind of viral activity, i.e., the attempts of the viruses to
infect objects at the disks of the computer. The mode is effective against
all viruses, including the unknown ones and even the viruses which are not
detected by euristic analyzer.
According to company's officials, SpIDer utilizes the same core and the
same viral database as the other scanners of DrWeb32 family, yet it can
perform all checks automatically.
SpIDer can also automatically check the files attached to incoming
e-messages, regardless of the mailing software used at the computer. If
there is a virus in the file, it will be detected as soon as the user tries
to open the attachment and the mailing agent extracts the attachment into a
temporary file. If the infected file is being downloaded directly from
Internet or by other means of electronic communications, the virus will be
found immediately while creating a file at the recipient's machine.
On top of that, the company says that SpIDer performs the euristic analysis
basing on the entire ensemble of virus-like operations. This dramatically
reduces the number of false alarms.
