First Russian Conference on Y2K problem
Journal BYTE/Russia and Russian company "IT" organized and moderated the
first Russian conference on Y2K problem. The Conference was in store not
only for computer experts, but for managers (from department manager to
minister). Achievements in Y2K solution in Russia are conditioned by their
comprehension of the problem and their position.
Representatives of Russian Federation State Committee on Communication and
Informatization, experts from leading foreign hardware makers and software
developers (Microsoft, Novell, Sun Microsystems, Informix, Symantec,
Sybase) and Russian computer companies (IT, Ankey, Lanit, Cognitive
Technologies, Stins Common, et.) took place in the Conference. At the
Conference many problems were considered (information systems testing,
strategy and way of transition to solutions, compatible with Y2K).
The first step in Y2K solution in Academy of company "IT" is the new
training course "Y2K problem", which includes analysis and planing of works
for Y2K problem solution, elimination of the problem and introduction of
new modified information system. First lessons will begin on 31 March,
1999.
