Y2K-compatible upgrade of Russia Defence Ministry comuter systems will take 85 million roubles

Vladimir Dvorkin said, that rework of military computer systems in the
frame of program "Problem 2000" will take 85 million roubles (current
exchange rate 1$=22.9 roubles). It concerns systems of nuclear armaments
control, systems of satellites management, missile attack early warning
systems and systems of space control. Third of this sum of money will spend
for software upgrade, the rest of it - for purchase of new hardware.
Dvorkin said, that funding of program "Problem 2000" already began. In
Krasnoznamensk Satellite Control Center 50 computers were displaced by new
ones. "If there will no grant-in-aid from West we will manage the task
ourselves", said Vladimir Dvorkin.
