R-Style Computers starts producing its own notebooks
On February 12, 1997 in the press-conference that was held in the central office the company R-Style Computers showed its new production -- multimedia notebooks R-Style Tornado. The share of notebooks' market in the computer market is not very large but its development is growing much quicker than the whole IT market. According to Mr. Valery Schoukin, General Manager of the company R-Style, the notebooks R-Style Tornado are not inferior by their function capacities and sometimes are even better of high-end models of the leading world manufacturers of computer technology. At the same time the cost of the notebooks R-Style Tornado is 1,5-2 times lower. They are targeted for the middle class representatives. These mobile computers are for those who need highly efficient and reliable technics but are not ready to pay US$7-8,000.00. Portable multimedia computers R-Style Tornado have the following configuration: Pentium 120-133 MHz processor ( in 1-2 months up to 150 MHz), 8-61 Mb memory, cache 256 Kb L2, hard disk from 1,35 Gb, 2 Mb videocard, 16-bit soundcard, PCMCIA, 10-speed CD-ROM drive, sensor panel, built-in floppy drive, microphone, built-in stereo speakers, infrared port, 11,3-12,1" screen with active matrix (SVGA, 800x600 resolution, 256K colours), preinstalled OS Windows 95. The principle "all-in-one" is realized in notebooks R-Style Tornado. Possessing the configuration comparable with that of multimedia desktop PC, a notebook R-Style Tornado is extremely compact: its weight is only 3,3 kg and its thickness is 4,8 sm. The notebooks R-Style Tornado may work up to 3 hours in autonomous power mode. The first notebooks were on sale in early February , 1997. In R-Style trade centres they cost from US$3,499 (11,3" screen, Pentium 120 MHz processor, 8 Mb RAM) to US$4,299 (12,1" screen, Pentium 133 MHz processor, 16 Mb RAM). It is expected that in 1-2 months another family of low-end notebooks R-Style Tornado will be produced. The price will be US$2,000-3,000.
