Cisco Systems and Golden Telecom, a provider of integrated telecommunication services and Internet services in Russia and CIS countries, signed the agreement on upgrade of Golden Telecom IP network. TeleRoss, the leading company of Golden Telecom group, will be the first Russian operator to deploy Cisco GSR high-end backbone routers in its network. Deployment of Cisco GSR routers is scheduled for June 2000. This upgrade will increase the ability of information transmission and widen the spectrum of services offered by Golden Telecom in Russia to both businesses and individuals. Golden Telecom CEO Stan Abbeloos says the project to result in more efficient utilization of company's own telecommunication resources, including the 2.4 Gbps fiber optic channel between Moscow, Russia and Stockholm, Sweden. This channel links Golden Telecom network with Global TeleSystems' (GTS) broadband Ebone network, which is the European largest Internet backbone. Cisco GSR backbone routers will be installed at principal nodes of Golden Telecom international channel - in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, and Stockholm.
