Moscow Cellular Communications (MCC) company has signed an agreement with Ericsson on upgrade and optimization of the existing analog cellular network in Moscow region. The network is operating in NMT-450 standard. Ericsson will supply MCC with new base station hardware, transmission systems, and the latest version of its software. The third base station switch will also be added to the network. Total cost of the project exceeds US$ 8 mln. The new MCC upgrade program will be completed by autumn 2000. The company says the new shipment of Ericsson hardware will allow it to optimize the capacity and quality of the network in Moscow. At the same time it will improve the coverage by eliminating the last gaps where cellular phones were rendered unoperational up to recently because of local topography. MCC also highlights that the new hardware will also serve in the new digital network scheduled for regular operation in mid-2001. Source: InfoArt News Agency
