North-West GSM, the largest cellular operator of St.-Petersburg region in Russia, announced completion of deployment efforts for WAP solution. Now the company is offering WAP-based Internet access services on a regular basis.

Deployment of WAP technology, including hardware purchase, installation and testing, was carried out during the past two months. Prior to this, the company had studied the technology and the market, analyzed the information and selected the hardware vendor. The company's choice was WAPLite platform from the American vendor with the same name. It should be mentioned, however, that now there is a lack of WAP-enabled handsets at St.-Petersburg market, with Nokia 7110's prevailing among the current offers.
